EXILE ON ABANDONED STREET

Over New Year's weekend, we decided to do something we've wanted to do for a very long time--drive six hours across the state to Joseph, Oregon, a little artist town in the mountains to shoot a video for our new single "Green (Mean Time)". We were actually supposed to do an artist residency and play our first show last spring at the Jennings Hotel in Joseph, but it was cancelled, like so many things, due to COVID.

The first night we arrived to a fresh blanket of snow and a full moon, and a herd of deer wandering around the abandoned streets of the town. We kept seeing them down side streets and then, when we were rolling, they sprinted through the frame, so they made it into the final video, of course.

We stayed for a few days and ate a lot of amazing pizza at The Gold Room and then went on long shooting excursions in the surrounding area. A tiny town called Imnaha with Wild West style cliffs and blowing grasses, a beautifully glassy Wallowa Lake that reflected the white peaks, and a little Alpen camp in the mountains where it was a winter wonderland of snow-flocked trees.

We came home and wondered how all the footage would all thread together. It turned into a bit of a Wizard of Oz-type story in the edit, which was an interesting surprise we didn't shoot for but actually makes a lot of sense given the subject matter of the song. The song is fundamentally about running away from yourself--you know, the old adage, "wherever you go, there you are"--and then ultimately finding your way home the (very) long way.

Anyway, we hope you love the song and the video, which was all shot and edited by Corvair's Brian. (P.S. No owls were harmed in the making of this video.)

Please support independent rock and roll and head over to buy the single, pre-order the album, and watch the video! (see music and video pages)

Happy 2021 to all of you. Thank you so much for your support.
