Corvair is a Seattle band founded in 2019 in Portland by Brian Naubert (Ruston Mire, Tube Top, Pop Sickle) and Heather Larimer (Eux Autres).

Though the band started in 2019, their eponymous debut was largely shaped by the early days of the pandemic. "Recording and writing in a total vacuum really emboldened us to go new places songwriting-wise," Naubert says. Threading together 70s pop, 80s synth rock, and 90s indie rock — with influences from bands that start with the letter B like Berlin-era Bowie to Blondie, to Blur, to The Beatles, to the Breeders — Corvair's debut announced a sound that felt both satisfyingly familiar and bracingly new. American Songwriter called it "dynamic and bombastic, but with infectious, subtle melodies." Drums were tracked by engineer Martin Feveyear (Brandi Carlile, Mark Lanegan) at Duff McKagan's studio in Seattle, with Eric Eagle (Jesse Sykes, Wayne Horvitz) behind the kit, produced and recorded by Naubert in Portland and then mixed by Feveyear at his studio on Vashon Island, WA.

The duo's second album, Bound to Be (2023), veered from muscular rock songs to languid pop confessionals, from stunning atmospherics to raw intimacy, held together by sharp lyrics and potent imagery. Northwest powerhouse drummer Mike Musburger (Fastbacks, The Posies) joined the sessions, with drums again tracked by Martin Feveyear at Duff’s studio. The album was produced and recorded by Naubert in Portland and mixed by Beau Sorenson (Bob Mould, Death Cab for Cutie, Taylor Swift) in Oakland. The press called it "giddy, exuberant pop that sweeps and soars and thunders."

Both records earned KEXP Song of the Day honors — in 2021 and 2023 — and have been featured in NPR New Music playlists, Spin, Bandcamp's notable new music, American Songwriter, and All Music Guide, with wide college and alternative radio play.

The third Corvair record is a double album, and its making has been anything but conventional. The music took shape over six stormy winter months in a 1979 cliffside house on the Oregon Coast — all mid-century lines and sweeping ocean views — a setting that left its mark on the record. Naubert then rented a converted barn on Vashon Island, WA for a month to track drums, reuniting Musburger and Feveyear for a third session together. Guitars and bass followed in Seattle, before Naubert spent nine months crossing 13 countries across Asia, Europe, and Africa, writing lyrics for all 28 songs, editing vocals and recording keyboards on the road. Back in Seattle for three months to finish the guitars, the record will be completed in Bali at the end of summer.
